We were discussing the merits of adding a high profile national retailer as an affiliate on our web site.
It was agreed it would have a significantly high value for our image. Before we could verbalize the question about the commission rate the associate who was sitting at his computer work station announced, "It's only two percent!"
Before we could nix the idea, I blurted out very old lame joke, "You save a penny here, a penny there and the first thing you know you have two pennies."
Before I could think of how that joke popped into my mind, someone suggested, "Let's try it and see how many pennies we get."
That's how a joke caused a group to crystallize an idea, summarize a problem definition, reach a consensus and resolve a problem in less than ten seconds.
