Anyone can be replaced when you maintain ongoing cross-training. This is a practice where one or more persons are trained to perform the tasks of others in your operations.
The ongoing aspect creates a non-threatening style of management. If it is sporadic or done during a period of crisis, your associates may feel you are planning to fire them once training is complete.
