If The Learner Hasn't Learned - The Teacher Hasn't Taught
Published: Mar 11, 2004
Application
Before you begin finding fault with someone who is having difficulty learning, check your own messages.
- Did you provide a proper introduction? Did you give an overview (gestalt view) or introduction?
- Did you set an appropriate learning atmosphere free from distractions or noise?
- Did you supply too much information or not enough?
- Was your lesson well organized and complete with learning objectives, samples, demonstrations and opportunities for practice and feedback?
- Did you start at the logical beginning and did you break the lesson into progressive steps?
- Did you select the proper medium?
- Did you praise success and comfort failures?
Got the picture?
- If you have to teach something to someone, learn a little bit about teaching.
- You don't have to gain the title of teacher to be able to teach.
- You don't require formal teacher training to know how to teach.
