Develop the Art of Saying Thanks

Published: Oct 27, 2004

Application

Prepare cards, templates or some other form of stationery for conveying thanks. Having these in a readily accessible file, along with the stamped mailing envelopes, makes this a simple and easy task to complete whenever you have an opportunity to thank someone. This includes congratulations for accomplishments.

Have a space for handwriting a personal note near your business logo or other identification.

To thank a speaker or presenter at your club send the card on your business stationery. If you have a digital camera, include a photo printout as a memento of the event.

One card can be formatted to include a published article announcing good news about the person or her/his business.

Whenever some good news is published, the featured person could appreciate extra copies to send to family and friends.

For significant events, you can enhance the thanks by enlarging, laminating or creating other displays.

Stories

Private Praise

A highly respected acquaintance always thanks me anytime I make a presentation at our club. The brief two or three word praise is uttered in a personal way with a volume just above a whisper. People around do not appear to hear it. I make it a point to watch his movements after someone else presents and he does it for everyone. Still, when he does it to me it feels very special and is much appreciated. Recently, I've extended my observations to include his business associates and they do the same gesture.
