Exploit Unused Low-Cost Media
Published: May 27, 2005
Application
The two major costs of advertising, copy and media, can be done in-house.
There must be some family member, someone with a vested interest in your success or an under-utilized staff person who can produce some
passable copy writing, painting or design.
Now, exercise your imagination to locate some free or low-cost media.
Here's a starter list for your creative thinking ...
- Vehicle
- - drive about or park in conspicuous areas such as malls with large parking areas
- - personal vehicles - magnetic or permanent signs
- - friend's cube van or covered trailer - seldom used, with or without signage
- build and paint a temporary sign
- rent or buy one with a motor or tow bar good enough to travel short distances
- - baby carriage wheeled by a fitness-conscious mother
- Walls - subject to local signage bylaws (get a copy of the bylaw)
- - exterior walls, with or without existing advertising
- - interior walls - vestibules, elevators, etc.
- Street-level display windows - similar to the costly kiosks in public areas
- - some commercial and retail shops do not use all of their display space
- - some offices (lawyers, dentists, opticians, insurance, etc.) have large under-utilized display space
- Lawn signs - subject to local bylaws
- - affix your tag message to legal realtors' signs
- - simulate those tiny (lawn insecticide warnings)
- - before and after your truck provides a service to a home
- Door-to-door leaflets
- - printed on your copier, distinctive paper color and delivered by your kids
- Sandwich boards
- - students, retirees and others will stand or walk for only a few bucks
As we said, it's just a starter list.
