Application

Notice how some companies solve problems by passing it to the advertising department.

You fly on a major airline and you find your legs cramped for space. Shortly after you notice a major advertising campaign selling the public on the idea that they have increased the space between seat. The assumption is they pulled out some of the extra rows of seats to move closer to the previous spacing. In my case, I don't know because I plan never to fly that airline again.

It's a long weekend. The police issue press releases warning the public to drive slower because there will be extra patrols on duty. You drive the highways and you can't find evidence of the extras. In some cases, you perceive there are fewer than normal. The assumption is there were fewer police available to work the shifts.

Coincidentally, that bank was conducting a national campaign depicting local bank managers giving personal attention to small businesses at their place of business. Let's hope their service will one day match their advertising campaign.
