Application

Excuse my fractured Latin. Translation = Don't let the bastards wear you down.

This is a humorous slant to the motto, "Bug them before they bug you."

A great strategy for swimming among the business sharks.

Three kids in this Grade Seven class carried guns

I was between ventures when someone suggested I apply to do supply teaching.

The Personnel Officer studied my resume. Apparently, he liked the combination of police experience and the part-time work as a youth leader in one of the roughest parts of the city during my undergraduate studies.

He asked, "Would you be interested in full-time teaching?"

I allowed it could be of interest if they were willing to accept someone with no teacher training.

I arrived at the school to discover the incumbent teacher was a highly skilled teacher who had agreed to keep a lid on an explosive situation until the Christmas break. It was mid-November. These Grade Seven kids had already wrecked the lives of two other teachers since the beginning of September.

The three years I remained in that classroom were some of the most enjoyable years. I managed to bug them more often that they did me.

Yes, three of those kids carried guns. That was long before guns became more prevalent than they are today. All three were killed in separate incidents while still teenagers.

Someday I hope to collect all the incidents into a larger tale.
