You've heard the advice, "To teach a dog new tricks you have to be smarter than the dog."
In the process of training a dog you will soon realize conditioning relies on praising and rewarding expected behavior. The dog can't read your mind or understand complex instructions. The dog is restricted to condition-response observations.
Now we're not implying customers, bureaucrats and other antagonists encountered in the course of business, are dogs. Rather, we're referring to your behavior. How do you condition the people you meet?
You will approach your contact with the intention of conditioning them for your expected response. Of course, you're going to check your tone and choice of words so you do not sound like you are 'talking down'. You will plan your sentences by eliminating words that do not contribute directly to your meaning (not unlike, "Sit" or "Heel".)
You will focus on your contact's sensory receptors or thier situation. You will praise when they've grasped your problem or intent. For creative communications, get a dog training manual and substitute 'dog' with 'adversary'.
Needless to say, this technique will require much practice before you reach perfection.
