Better the Devil You Know

Published: Jun 11, 2004

Application

Few people and deals are perfect. Often we're tempted to switch because of some irritating imperfections.

It pays to, at least, compare the knowns with the unknowns when confronted with an either-or decision.

Decision making under uncertainty is more difficult and riskier than making decisions under certainty.

Attempt corrective actions or concessions with the devil. Alluding to your alternative options may spur the devil to be more accommodating.
