Honesty is culturally determined.

Application

Think about the expectations from "an honest deal" in your town compared with the expectations from an honest deal prevalent in a community not more than a few hundred miles away.

Now expand your thoughts beyond your national borders to regions with a different language, a different set of religions and with those having a different political structure. Trying to strike an honest deal there is almost impossible because you're trying match apples and oranges.

Reaching a fair settlement is easier.

Observing these exaggerations of the foreign differences helps you to sense the subtle nuances across short distances.

Two parties can achieve a meeting of the minds in a FAIR deal where expectations have a closer match. Whereas, how can parties reach agreement when each is relying upon diametrically opposed standards of honesty.
