Mirror People from Unreasonable to Reasonable

Application

Mirroring is the use of words to simulate the holding of a mirror for a person to see (or hear) their own actions. The objective is to cause a person to alter their position when they hear the reflection.

Some mirroring phrases can begin with:

• "Let me see if I have this correct. You are saying I should..." [some exaggeration may be included in your re-phrasing]
• "Did I understand you to say..."
• "As I review my notes, here's the situation..."
• "In other words, you are implying..."
• "Do you think this is fair and reasonable when you say..."

Mirroring is a common technique used in resolving conflicts between persons in a workplace situation. It seems to be more effective when an adversary is familiar with the technique. Perhaps, because they can sense the implications from you using it.
