When You Make A Change Take Baby Steps

Published: Jan 15, 2004

Application

Everyone seems to have some resistance to change. Some have it to a greater degree than others. People will object to a change with numerous reasons for doing things the way it was always done. The objections can be cleverly disguised to sound rational. Others will do covert acts of sabotage. Resistance to change can be costly at times.

If you have the time, one way to implement change is to do it in small increments.

Another method is to maintain an atmosphere of constant change. Constantly changing things for good reasons will condition people, prone to resisting, to become more accommodating and flexible. The 'sick' ones will go elsewhere to impede progress. Hopefully, it will be with your competitor.

Change is often a pre-requisite for progress but, take care to avoid changing just for change sake.
