Hours = 40 + 40

Published: Jun 9, 2004

Application

Start and run a venture, put in 40 hours a week, then, if you take a job there, add 40 more. This is one reason why it's recommended we work at a venture we really enjoy doing.

Many entrepreneurs start a venture to market and deliver a particular skill. Performing the skill is the differential needed for effective marketing but, who is going to manage the business while the performing is being done? If it is the same person doing both, that explains why most small business operators put in an (40 + 40) 80-hour week for the first few years.
