Consult the Group of Six

Published: Jan 18, 2005

Application

How would you like to have a consulting group that is available within seconds and can render a report within minutes? In addition, if required, the same group can hang around to deliver a multi-page report. The best part is: it will not cost a cent!

The members of the group are: Ms. Who, Dr. What, Miss When, Mr. Where, Mrs. Why and How Esq.

We are not trying to be corny or frivolous with the above. We are trying to make the point that you have, in your head, the resources that are employed by many external consultants. It's up to you to instinctively activate this resource and to develop the habit of employing it whenever a problem or challenge occurs. It is so basic that it's often overlooked.

We have made the case in marketing. You know your product, your customers and your marketplace better than most outside advertising advisors. As well, you will find throughout this site the suggestion to ask the questions: who, what, when, where, why and how when analyzing a problem or situation.

It is much the same when you are faced with solving all problems and meeting all challenges. Most times you, as a small business manager, are the best resource and the best decision maker available. Because, you are there, you know the limits and circumstances of the problem and you command the resources available to solve the problem.

Develop the habit of consulting the Group of Six first.
