When you have an MBWA, Management By Walking Around, you'll learn more about running a small business than you could learn from an MBA degree program.
Walking around your business requires such highly developed skills as putting people at ease, listening, observing and translating acquired information into improved performance or working conditions.
Chatting with associates opens large windows of opportunity for motivating, praising good performance, suggesting improvements, finding the smaller details of how tasks are performed and voicing company policy.
Observations provide valuable meaningful data for those moments you allow your right brain freedom to function.
CAUTION! Whenever you enter an area over which you have appointed a supervisor or manager, announce your intention to enter the area to that person.
Frequent sojourns accomplish more than promoting the image of a boss who cares.
