This new word, a blend of problem and opportunity, has been coined to remind us to view problems as opportunities.
Often, opportunities are disguised as problems or vice versa. When such a concept is summed in a single word it's an opportunity is to post it where it will be a constant reminder for your managerial mindset.
The wise manager, when confronted with a problem, will immediately start searching for a potential opportunity.
Alexandre Dumas in his, The Three Musketeers, has the character D'Artagnan say, "It is a good man who can prevent a catastrophe, it is a great man who can make use of one."
On the eve of young Harry's birthday someone protested one of his father's managerial decisions by dumping a load of horse manure on their front lawn.
The next morning, Harry was found digging around in the manure. "Harry! What are you doing?" asked the father.
"With all this manure here, there must be a pony here somewhere!" explained Harry.
