Avoid Begging

Published: Apr 9, 2004

Application

Bureaucrats tend to reduce their clients to beggars. If they have something you need they seem to gain some power by having you beg for it.

Begging is rather demeaning for a person over the age of 18.

Begging puts you in a subservient position. This significantly reduces the chances for reaching a win-win situation. A bully operates from the Parent Ego state of mind. Your childlike behavior only reinforces the master-slave relationship where your only option is losing.

One ploy is to reverse the roles by adopting a parental stance and begin talking down to the bureaucrat.

Another tactic is to disobey the parent. Ask why you should beg for something that is freely available.

Insistent begging is likely to be ignored as is the child who constantly nags a parent.

Why beg for pennies when you can strike for gold?
