Application

Riddle: How do you catch a bear?

Answer: Dig a deep hole. Put peas around the rim. When the bear comes down for a pea – kick him in the hole.

You've heard it said you can catch more bears with honey than with vinegar.

There's a likelihood a bully is someone compensating for an inferiority complex. Take a guess at what it might be. Go on a fishing expedition to get at the real or imagined source. Try praise, compliments or outright exposure to mollify the bully. You may even convert the bully to a friend. Of course, you may not want to have a bully as a friend unless the mollifying became modifying.

Real bears in the woods are quite intelligent animals who do not have a tendency to bully. They only become belligerent when provoked or when they feel threatened. A sick bear may be nasty on any encounter.

Consider bureaucratic bullies to be sick bears who need a taste of their own medicine.
