The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease

Application

If a bully bureaucracy is giving you the round-a-round from one department to another, keep someone from each department involved with your problem. One way to do this is to report findings or statements to all the departments you can contact. The objective is to keep everyone on the same page and locked into your space until your problem is solved. In other words, you want to make your squeaks noisy and persistent with the grease liberally applied.

You can excuse your repetitions by saying such things as, "I don't think I mentioned such-n-such on our last contact," or "You sent me to so-n-so and they said such-n-such," or "I can't remember who you told me to contact."

If you are tempted to call the bullies a bunch of dummies you must act with smarter strategies. You've heard the first rule for training a dog – you have to be smarter than the dog.

If your group of bullies are acting illogically, your strongest weapon is logic. Use a flowchart or similar device to keep your thinking ahead of the bullies. Use these to devise traps.

The bureaucrats will warn you of the dangers of contacting more than one department or creating multiple work orders. Listen carefully to all the caveats. These may have an ounce of truth so, you can exercise extreme caution to prevent these from happening at your end. When you stir up a hornets nest, take care not to be stung.
