Doing Lunch - Really

Published: Jun 10, 2004

Application

You agree with someone to a, "Let's do lunch" because it's either to your advantage or it's an event you would enjoy. Set a tentative or fixed date during the initial conversation or else make contact at the earliest convenience and set the date. Include in your diary the major topics you were discussing or those you want covered. This helps you to be relaxed while conducting the introductory small talk before you get to the agenda item(s.)

If you think this is too much organization for your life, I put to you this question, "Do you want this to happen or do you want to risk suffering remorse for not getting it done?"

When someone suggests doing lunch and it is not to your advantage leave the initiating (procrastination) to the other party. Saying, "Yes" and doing nothing about it is far better than saying, "No," which implies you don't want to lunch with that person.
