Have a place for everything and have everything in its place.
This allows you to maintain better control over your data and instruments. Meeting diary dates and recalling important information becomes more reliable. Common elements tend to be stored together.
Save time by easily retrieving items.
If this discipline is new to you, do not try to implement it all at once. Rather, set goals and steadily progress toward those goals on a regular basis.
When tempted to add spaces, search for an opportunity to purge stored items. Eliminate redundant materials or move inactive materials to a reserve area.
Develop the habit of putting things in their place immediately or on a regular on-going basis.
Keep manageable miscellaneous spaces. When this space becomes unwieldy, distribute to new designated spaces.
Use spaces labeled "For filing" - in the meantime, it has a place.
