Build Travel Take Lists
Published: May 20, 2004
Application
Take Lists are reminders for trip preparations.
Avoid creating a new list for each trip by storing formats for different occasions in your computer.
Start a list today because Something is Better Than Nothing. Refine them each time they are used. Distribute to fellow travelers to reduce duplication and to prove how better organized you are!
Classify your lists according to your situation. Here is a sample starter list to demonstrate some groupings to consider.
- Basic - toiletries, medications, grooming utensils, travel aids (eye shades, neck braces, slippers), etc.
- Clothing
- Overnight
- Between three & seven days
- Greater than seven days
- Accessories - belts, jewelry, travel iron...
- Transportation Mode
- Auto - maps, insurance documents, auto servicing, tapes & discs...
- Airplane - tickets, neck rest, varied reading materials...
- Exclude items not permitted in carry-on or checked luggage since 9/11.
- Other
- Distance or borders crossed
- Passport, medical insurance documents, local maps in English, translating devices...
- Electrical converters, extra clocks or watches for different time zones, gadget codes & instructions, fresh batteries for live operation at security checkpoints.
- Currency for first day's needs or before you reach a hotel or bank.
- Business equipment
- Laptop with peripherals, paper clips, stapler, document holders, colored pens and printer paper.
- Communication details with contact points or persons privy to your movements, itinerary, persons to meet including a distribution list to whom information given.
...AND THE LISTS GO ON – now that you have the basic idea.
Bon Voyage!

All maxims are now attributed to Max
