If you sincerely believe calmness is power and achieving calmness is your goal, then, how do you acquire it? James Allen pointed to the path. He said it's the, "result of long and patient effort in self-control."
How do you travel down that path to reach calmness? What do you do along the path?
In the school of life from the beginning, it's how you deal with the little things in life. These can be as simple as a hangnail or a broken shoelace; traumatic as disappointments in love or being bullied in the schoolyard or doing poorly or failing a test; in business, the loss of a major sale or client or suffering an insolvency leading to a possible bankruptcy; in life, a personal injury or a death of a loved one. It's not so much the severity of the situation as it is how you internalize - how you react and recover. Ask yourself, "Did I acquire more calmness each step down the path?
After each event you have a choice. One, you can remain un-calm and continue to feel sorry for yourself or, two, begin traveling the road toward calmness today. For the latter, treat each reverse or challenge as an opportunity to exercise self-control. Rejoice in your victories over the little things. Progress down the path by volunteering for challenges with greater risks. The objectives are overcoming misfortunes to achieve the goal of calmness rather than simply enjoying the flagellation.
Observe the curriculum of training centers for developing persons to deal with extremely stressful situations. They subject the trainees to real and unreal hardships. The trainers look for the qualities that will prepare the subjects to remain calm under fire.
Calmness can be equated to serenity, composure or self-control.
The goal is calmness because calmness is power. Power is essential for business success and for successful business persons.
