Sleep patterns are disturbed by such business activities as traveling and networking. Getting enough sleep is essential for a manager.
The quality of your thoughts and the performance of your activities are greatly influenced by how you manage your sleep performance. The words, "manage" and "performance" are used intentionally. Our sleeping behavior can be managed and managerial activities are performed better following a good night's sleep.
Many of the tips that prepare you for sleep are implemented through discipline and good management. These include:
One relaxation method is so effective it can put you to sleep any place, anywhere and, when perfected, within seconds. It's a muscle relaxation routine. Start with the extremities: hands, feet, neck, arms and legs. Tighten each muscle in those areas to discern what the tension feels like. Then, do the opposite by relaxing as completely as possible. This may require repetition until you feel each body part going numb or sinking into the mattress. Continue the process for your whole body. As the dizziness that precedes sleep overcomes you, offer a bit of self-praise for its reinforcement benefit.
Should your nighttime sleep be disrupted, try the relaxation method for a less-than-fifteen-minute nap during the day.
