Happy Minutes Accumulate to a Happy Life

Application

You may classify this maxim as trivial, insignificant, picayune or frivolous if you wish. On the other hand, you may considerate it as profound - a simple management application to living life.

What do we managers do when faced with an overwhelming task? We break it down into more manageable parts. Likewise, we can apply this technique to living a happy life.

A teenager looks in a mirror and declares, "Today, I'm going to start a new life!" While we empathize with his or her resolve we wonder how this could be accomplished.

Take the task of having a happy life. What a daunting task! Let's apply our management thinking to this.

A lifetime can be divided into parts. What is the smallest manageable part? A minute. Minutes are far easier to manage than hours, days or weeks. Now, our plan is to manage for a succession of happy minutes which will add up to a happy life.

We plan to have as many happy minutes as possible. Our contingency plan is when unhappy minutes do occur, we do whatever we can to shorten the accumulation of them. We acquire habits and methods for eliminating sources of unhappiness such as situations, conditions and people.

Now, is this such a silly idea?
