If humility is the sign of self-confidence, arrogance is most likely a sign of the opposite - lack of self-confidence.
As Rudyard Kipling wrote, "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you..."
Down on the street there's an old saying, "the man who takes his coat off to fight isn't going to fight."
When next someone is shouting and or is trying to intimidate you with a great display of bravado, take this as a sign for you to concentrate on being serene. Have the courage to look beyond the bluster and reach out to calm the frightened one. It could do the both of you a lot of good.
The more you try to remain serene, the more you will feel self-confident. Serenity is developed more during heated encounters than during your quieter times.
