Reap the Benefits of Planning

Published: Mar 29, 2004

Application

The return on investment of planning time has a high yield. You can save much more time during execution than originally spent on planning.

There's a myth that active managers get the most done as though following the motto of the French cavalry, "When in doubt, gallop." Managers can become so active they forget where they intended to go.

Planning is the first stage in the POSDC cycle of management (Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing and Controlling).

It's helpful to remember that some planning is better than none at all.

Often, planning will result in revealing that the idea or proposal isn't worth exploring.
