Dreams to Reality

Published: Mar 16, 2004

We are often told that great things happen because someone had a dream.

We often meet dreamers who never seem to accomplish very much. Then, there are day dreamers who seem to accomplish nothing. How do the winners dream dreams that become grand achievements? How do they make the leap to reality?

It's possible they simply just start to implement. What happens when the winners have many dreams?

We see losers start one thing then jump to another project until they become immersed in a pile of unfinished projects.

Here is a device for helping you to face reality and to do something about it.

The Dream Table

How it Works

List all your dreams in the first column. Never mind if some sound frivolous or unrealistic because you need these for the mental health adjustment that takes place in the second column.

When you are in your best true-to-thyself mood, mark a Yes or No in the second column. A NO means you can clear it out of your mind so you can laugh about it when you tell others it was a pipe dream that will never happen. It will never clutter your consciousness as you set about doing realistic projects.

Schedule the realizable dreams to a time period over the remainder of the chart. Q represents Quarter and 1st means first half of year.

Calculate the estimated time for completing each project. Compare the total required with the estimate of available time. Imbalances will cause you to re-schedule to more realistic periods. When you try to pour a quart of liquid into a pint container you will end up with a mess!

Place this sheet in your planning folder(s). Do what you have to do to keep this document under periodic review.
