Start a Business Without Money
Published: Jan 17, 2005
Application
Write a business plan for your eyes only.
Writing a business plan will focus your direction, your accomplishments and, strengthen your resolve to be an entrepreneur.
A generalized or all-embracing plan could have subsets of plans for each of the following phases.
Phase 1
- List all the ways to earn revenue without any investment.
- Discard unrealizable schemes to a "Someday" or a "Considered / Dismissed" file.
- Select only those which can be started without any cash investment.
- Some revenue producing activities:
- Sell a service not requiring supplies and equipment you do not own.
- Sell something you already own, a popular practice on eBay.
- Sell something for someone else or a product received on consignment.
- Take a part-time job for saving all resulting income.
- Prioritize and schedule the "winners" for implementation.
Phase 2
- Write a complete, however brief, plan for the first venture.
- Record all the evidence for demonstrating the portion of the revenue you saved.
Phase 3
- Begin writing business plans for the subsequent or "next best" ventures on your list.
Phase 4
- If appropriate, launch additional ventures for market testing and other purposes.
Phase 5
- Sell or abandon all but the most profitable venture.
- Use your track record for negotiating debt and/or investment financing.
Treat this as an idea rather than a blueprint. The concept is to proceed with earned revenue.
