Standard QnA Business Plan

The Standard QnA Business Plan consists of nine different units: Overview of Venture, Financial, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Organization, Operations, Computer Systems, Plant and Equipment, and Additional Information.

Overview of Venture

What is this concept all about?

Most readers of your business plan want a brief summary of your concept. The overview establishes the context for the reader who is going to delve into the details of the plan. Some readers want only to read the basic concepts for their decision.

You may elect to write more than one version of the overview to suit the needs of all your readers.

While this section is read first, it is often the last to be written.

Financial Unit

Where is the money coming from and how will it be expended?

Accuracy and relevancy are the critical features in this unit.

Accurate data should truthfully reflect reality and all arithmetic should be checked. The credibility of your entire plan becomes compromised when one error is discovered. Ensure horizontal and vertical sums are correct. When calculating ratios, make sure your decimal point is properly placed. Name sources for any external data. When your data is "soft" or estimated, clearly state that situation.

Relate your financial data with statements made in the other units. For instance, if you promise to do specific things in your marketing unit, make sure this is appropriately included in your financial unit.

Marketing Unit

How are we going to get the money to operate this business?

Many business plans focus on the financial aspects of a venture because most plans are intended to influence an investor or a lender. Since many financial people become skeptical when a marketer includes excessive "hype" in the plan, care should be taken to express marketing strategies and promotions in a factual manner. Whenever it is necessary to impress a marketing-oriented person - use a separate document.

In most ventures, the marketing strategies are critical to meeting obligations and in fulfilling the projections of the financial unit. The financing-oriented person recognizes the important role marketing plays in causing a venture to be successful.

Therefore, a business plan writer should remain aware of these differing viewpoints or orientations by avoiding the superfluous use of unexplained jargon and unsubstantiated assertions.

When you get a helping hand there's a body attached to it.

How are you going to engage and treat people who assist in performing the various functions of your business venture?

The manner in which people are engaged to conduct the business involves conforming to certain work and workplace standards. In addition, there are many considerations for converting these employed individuals into effective workgroups.

Your plan will outline your decisions on employment policy, remuneration and benefits, training and maintaining quality control. Provisions for development and conflict resolution methods can also be included.

Computer Systems Unit

How are you going to process and control all the data that accumulates by the pico second?

Few enterprises can compete or survive in today's society without computers to process, control and report on generated data.

Someone must design or adopt a system for gathering, sorting and analyzing data. Reports are to be generated. Interactive systems for instant processing are reasonable expectations.

A security system is mandatory to protect the data.

What do we need to produce the product or to deliver the service?

Acquisition of building, furniture, fixtures and equipment often require the major portion of funds available. For this reason, alternative sources and applications deserve mention and consideration.

For instance, your reader will be interested in your decisions to rent or purchase, to buy new or used and schemes to minimize usage.
